How to Start Teaching Corporate Yoga: Tips from a Glasgow-Based Yoga Teacher

Corporate yoga is a growing trend as companies recognize the value of employee well-being. As a yoga teacher based in Glasgow, I’ve had the opportunity to teach corporate clients in and around the city. Whether it’s a one-off wellness day or regular yoga sessions, I’ve seen firsthand how yoga can help improve productivity, reduce stress, and create a positive work environment. If you’re thinking about venturing into corporate yoga, here are a few tips to help you get started.

1. Get on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is an incredible tool for networking, especially in the corporate world. Create a strong profile showcasing your yoga expertise and emphasise your ability to bring wellness into the workplace. Join relevant groups, participate in discussions, and connect with people in HR or wellness roles. Corporate decision-makers often turn to LinkedIn to find wellness providers for their teams, so a strong presence can help you get noticed.

2. Ask Family and Friends

If you’re just starting out, your network is your best friend. Reach out to family members, friends, or acquaintances who work in corporate settings and ask if they would be interested in a wellness day or regular yoga sessions. This is how I got started, I initially taught a few wellness days before transitioning into offering regular sessions. These smaller connections can often lead to bigger opportunities, so don’t hesitate to ask!

3. Offer Flexible Options for Employers

Corporates may be hesitant to commit to regular sessions right away, so start by offering flexible options like one-off wellness days or monthly sessions. This gives them a chance to see the benefits without a long-term commitment. Over time, you can work with HR teams to tailor regular programs that suit their schedule, goals, and work culture.

4. Provide Stress-Relief Solutions

One of the main reasons businesses turn to corporate yoga is to help employees manage stress. Highlight the benefits of yoga for stress relief, such as improving mental clarity, boosting energy levels, and fostering relaxation. In your initial conversations, make sure to emphasize how yoga can be a practical solution to the pressures of the modern workplace.

5. Offer Virtual Classes

With remote work becoming more common, many companies are looking for ways to offer wellness remotely. Offering virtual yoga classes makes it easy for employees to participate no matter where they are working. Ensure you have the right setup with good lighting and sound to create an engaging online experience. Virtual classes are an excellent way to reach employees across different locations.

6. Build Relationships with HR and Wellness Coordinators

Establishing a good relationship with HR departments and wellness coordinators is key. These professionals are often the ones responsible for booking wellness initiatives within a company. Be proactive in reaching out to them, offering tailored packages, and explaining the benefits of yoga for workplace health and happiness.

7. Be Flexible with Class Length and Times

Corporate clients may have limited time during the workday, so being flexible with the length and timing of your classes is essential. Consider offering 30-45 minute sessions that employees can fit into their lunch breaks or just before or after work. The more adaptable you are, the more likely companies are to book you for regular sessions.

Starting a corporate yoga business can be both rewarding and fulfilling, and it’s a great way to expand your reach as a yoga teacher. With a little networking, creativity, and persistence, you can help companies to create healthier, more mindful work environments. Start small, get the word out, and soon you’ll be running regular yoga sessions for corporate teams.
